Choquequirao is located in the Vilcabamba Valley in the province of La Convencion – Cusco at an altitude of 3300 m.a.s.l. and at 1500 m. over the roaring waters of the Apurimac River.
According to the chronicles Choquequirao was the last Inca refuge from 1536.
Choquequirao comes from the Chuqui meaning that means gold and from the word k’iraw that means cradle, that is to say “Cradle of Gold”.
The construction consists of terraces and buildings at different levels, from the lowest level known as Sunch’u Pata to the highest truncated top.
The archaeological center is known as the “Sacred Sister” for being as important as Machu Picchu, for its architecture and design used in construction. The city is an inspiring example of a ceremonial center of the Inca elite, dedicated to the worship of the gods of the mountain, the river and the elements of nature.
The landscape is spectacular, the enclosure is surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains, the main one is the Salkantay snow-capped mountain and by deep slopes of vegetation characteristic of jungle eyebrows.
CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS
Day 01: Cusco - Cachora - Cocamasana - Rosalina Beach
Early in the morning, we leave from Cusco to the town of Cachora, where we will have breakfast and meet the muleteers who will carry the luggage. After about two hours of walking we will be in Capuliyoc (2910 m.a.s.l.), from this point you have an impressive view of the Apurimac valley, the Padriyoc Snow and Wayna Cachora. Then we will descend to Coca Masana (2235 m.a.s.l.), where the climate, flora and fauna of the area begins to change markedly, to finally reach Playa Rosalina (1540 m.), Where we will spend the night.
Day 02: Rosalina Beach - Choquequirao
Early in the morning, after an energizing breakfast, the ascent begins with an approximate 5 hours to Rayanpata, next to the Chunchullymayo River, resting place and lunch. Then we will make the section of Rayanpata to Choquequirao (3035 m.a.s.l.), Approx. Two hours of walking, arriving we will have time to appreciate the sunset and sometimes the flight of the Condor.
On the road to Choquequirao you can see many varieties of orchids and types of birds.
Day 03: Choquequirao - Rayanpata - Capuliyoc
After breakfast, we will explore this incredible Archaeological site of Choquequirao, here our guide will explain in detail the history and importance of this place. Then you will have free time to explore these impressive constructions at ease. Then we will begin the return to Capuliyoc. Camp.
Day 04: Capuliyoc - Cachora - Cusco
This is the last day of the Choquequirao tour, you will appreciate the majestic Apurimac Canyon, considered one of the deepest in the region. Then we will take a path that crosses the gorge of the canyon, with a spectacular view of Waynaqally, to finally reach the town of Cachora. In this place our private bus does not wait for the return to the city of Cusco.
